High up in the Andes lies an eternal error ...

It’s repeated like the Tibetan prayers with the prayer mills in the temples. The truth is: When the Inka conquered what’s Peru today, thy climbed the Andes and found Machu Picchu on an elavation of more than 7000 feet – and couldn‘ believe their eyes! Machu Picchu was old already, possibly 1000 years older, older in any case than the Inka culture. They restored and fortified this place with its cyclops walls, built without cement, and when the Amerinan Hiram Bingham rediscovered Machu Picchu in 1911, to say „I found the last refuge of the Inka“ was the handiest argument to interest the world. The Spanish knew about it, but when they came, the Inka ruled, it never dawned on them that Machu Picchu was conquered by them. But even Wikipedia says: „ … an old Inka city.“ Folks, that’s wrong …
