Robot-Restaurant

A waiter serves a tray of food, following his track ...

It just opened and I wouldn’t go there for the food. Nor for the style of the establishment. The food prices are okay (6 to 10 $ or 4 to 7 Euro). But the service is outstanding in this restaurant in Harbin (Northeast China). It  has 18 different coloured robots, ranging between 1,3 and 1,6 m (ca. 4 to 5 feet) in height, doing all kinds of jobs, from ushering in guests to waiting tables and cooking various dishes. They were created by the Harbin Haohai Robot Company after an investment of $790,000 or 600 000 Euro. So what happens at the restaurant? As customers walk to the door, a robot extends its right arm and says: “Earth Person, Hello, Welcome to the Robot Restaurant” in Chinese. After you’ve placed your order with a human waiters, the robots in the kitchen get cooking. There are dumpling-making robots, noodle experts and even chefs that get the foods right every time. Once the meals are ready, robot waiters serve them, following a set of tracks through the restaurant, equipped with sensors which allow them to move freely without bumping into anything or anyone. A singing robot provides the entertainment. All can show more than 10 different facial expressions, are controlled by a human staff in the computer room, and can work for 5 hours after a 2-hour charge. Enjoy my blog meal since Harbin is very very far in the East …
