She is gifted, beautiful and traveling from festival to festival in Africa: the singer Floewe. That’s not her real name and one hardly knows how to pronounce her pseudonym. Her real name is Fikile Dhladhia and I recently discovered her 15 years old first recording: „Be My Friend“. What a voice, what a feeling, what an honesty! She was born, raised and trained in her native Swaziland and I tell you: This tiny country is so full of artistic talents, it’s a shame it is one of the worst plagued nations by AIDS! The recordings are hard to get by out of Africa, but thanks to the Internet they can be ordered. And YouTube shows a few (pretty good) examples of Floewe’s performances. By the way: She was celebrated in May at the „MTN Bushfire 2014 Line-Up“ in Zimbabwe, the equivalent of the MTV Music Festival in Europe and the USA. It’s a shame that even African singers of her class never have a chance to perform outside of their continent, and will hardly ever get an recording contract … (Floewe, is was told, tries it for more than 10 years).
