… and the even nobler tea pots

THE „ROYAL CHINA CLUB“ IN LONDON IS A POSH PLACE, INDEED! It’s open to the public (address: 40-42 Baker Street, right in the city), the entrance is pure understatement but once inside – wow, you really feel like being in the Forbidden City of Beijing 150 years ago. And now to the point: You will find a pot of tea which will cost you US$ 250 or ca. 230 Euro (without buying the nice pot). And there is a reason for it: Inside is the „Da Hong Pao“ tea, once called „Imperial Red Robe“. Completely handmade with hand-plucked leaves, who are rarer than gold nuggets in Klondike nowadays. Because after being plucked, the leaves undergo a complicated process to craft them. Well, I didn’t try the tea, but a friend of mine did – intentionally, because money was never a problem for him, but his curiosity; he tells me, that „Da Hong Pao“ tasts – surprise, surprise – like ordinary tea. „Maybe with a little plum character and a trace of apricot“, he said. An answer which saved me a fortune …
