Sahara

... and the landscape where Saif was captured

Yussef Saleh al-Hotmani is a real son of the desert, born and raised in the Sahara. And he is longtime friend and partner in many Sahara adventures of Anderas Bender, the legendary Master of the Art of Travel (and some other arts). When Andreas and I went with a group of friends to the hinterland of Libya, near the border to Mali and Niger, Yussef was the Chief Tuareg Guide. And now he was hired by Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, most criminal son of Liby’s dead dictator Muammar Gaddafi, to take him into Niger and safety. But Yussef is a proud men, a patriot, a freedom fighter. Saif put his fate in the wrong hands. Yussef informed his friends, the Revolutionary Fighters, and handed Saif over to to them on Saturday morning, 19th of November, at 4 a.m. local time. Andreas who was very well informed about the whole action, reminded me: „You remember the Ubari Sand Dunes, the place we had spend our last night? The magic place I had made our camp site und called it ‚Sahara City‘. It was exactly there that Yussef made Saif his prisoner …“. I show you here some of the watercolours I have made there, so you know how tough but beautiful and authentic the region is.
