Le Procope

„Le Procope“ in Paris, the landmark of the icecream ...

It’s a long story: more than 350 years long! Around 1660 Francesco Procopio from Sicily discovered, that the combination of water, salt and nitre makes an frozen mixture, he added flavour and – had icecream. Nice in hot Sicily, but more prosperous in Paris. That’s why he opened in the year 1686 the cafe „Le Procope“ in the rue de l’Ancienne Comedie no. 13. Robbespierre, Voltaire and Napoleon were regular customers and – unbelievable – the „Le Procope“ still exists under the same name and adress. A beautiful place, a historical landmark. Let’s go there!
