„ALBERGO DELL’ ANGELO“ is a historic mini-hotel in the southwestern Italian Town of Pieve di Teco. A forgotten settlement in the mountains above the Riviera, which lost 80 % of its inhabitants in the last 20 years, just 1000 are left. An old town, and wonderfully quiet – and so is the Albergo, at least 250 years in existence, naturally in the same family, and you wouldn’t believe it: The French emperor NAPOLEON SLEPT HERE – on the flight back to Paris and power from the his exile on the island of Elba. And what’s even more amazing: The original bed is since then in the original room and you might use it if nobody else has booked it! I know of no better „Liebesnest“ (Lovebirds Lair), the Albergo has eight rooms only, run by a most charming proprietor, the price per night is 76 Euro or, presently, US$, and when a friend of mine stayed there over last Christmas with his wife, they were the only – and cherished – guests. Just look at the photos: The „dell’ Angelo“ is a living museum, just look at the paintings around the bed and on the ceiling, and it’s the best hide-away I can think of. It’s not over-easy to get there, but look at the map – problems look different, from Imperia an the Mediterranean it’s no more than 21 km or 14 miles! Only fault: The breakfast is included but unbelievably lousy, avoid it (take just the coffee) and walk half a minute to the next Cafeteria …
